A visual impairment is a medically diagnosed condition documented by an ophthalmologist and documented in a report.
Services
The Vision Resource Teacher is employed as an advocate, consultant, therapist, and teacher to support the education of students who have a medically diagnosed vision loss. In addition to being a B.C. Certified Classroom Teacher, the Vision Resource Teacher is a certified Teacher of Children with Visual Impairments.
If you suspect a student has a vision loss, parents should contact their family doctor and/or ophthalmologist.
Contact Procedures
Those students with a documented vision loss should be referred to LEARNING SERVICES using the Learning Services referral form, with a report on the student’s vision attached. Documentation will be reviewed by the Vision Resource Teacher and a decision will be made as to the appropriate level of support services.
